Making Tax Digital is HMRC's long-running push to bring all of UK tax reporting online - digital records, compatible software and direct filing replacing the old spreadsheets and paper. It started with VAT and is expanding to other taxes over time. The rules are not optional, but with the right setup they are not difficult either. Does Making Tax Digital Apply to Me?
MTD for VAT already applies to all VAT-registered businesses. MTD for Income Tax Self Assessment (MTD for ITSA) is being rolled out for self-employed individuals and landlords above set income thresholds, in phases - with further extensions planned. The simplest way to know what applies to you now, and what will apply later, is to ask. We will tell you exactly where you stand and what to do about it. Current scope, thresholds and rollout dates are published at gov.uk.
